| AC Court awards 7 yrs imprisonment to accused for presenting fake insurance claim | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 04- Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu BL Bhat today awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 50000 to accused 7- year Darshan Singh claiming to be an ex-Army Officer who allegedly got insurance police on non-existing person. Senior Public Prosecutor SK Bhat appearing for the CBI submitted that the accused has been in the lock up for the last several years as no one has forward for his bail. The accused was produced in court in custody. According to the CBI case that accused after entering into a criminal conspiracy got an insurance policy issued from LIC Kathua on non-existing person namely Puran Singh. On May 28, 1998, the accused preferred a bogus insurance claim to the tune of Rs 1, 02, 530 which was paid vide cheque on November 25, 1999 in the name of Urmila Devi on the basis of fake death certificate and other documents attributed to Army Authority, that the non-existing person Puran Singh had died in a bomb blast on October 22, 1998. During the investigation it was found that proposal for insurance in the name of non-existing person Puran Singh was submitted by LIC Agent Swarn Singh. Particulars of the fictitious proposal given as Puran Singh son of late Dev Singh of Chhatri Ka Pura, Subash Nagar Morena MP with that accused Urmial Devi was mentioned nominee (mother) and Insurance was proposed for Rs 50,000. After hearing the arguments by the CBI counsel, the Court awarded six years rigorous imprisonment for each offence u/s 120-B r/w sections 420, 468, 471 RPC and ordered that that sentence in respect of offence u/s 419 shall be limited RI for one year and fine of Rs.50,000. All the sentences shall run concurrently, the Court further ordered. JNF
