| Govt constitutes expert committee to suggest measures for improving Doctor’s service conditions: Mangat | | | Srinagar, September 22 –A high level expert committee would be constituted to look into the grievances of the doctors and suggest measures to improve the health and medical sector said Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma while addressing doctors at doctor’s day organized by the doctors association Kashmir. Minister of State for Health Peer Mohammad Hussain, MLA CPI(M) Mr. M. Y. Tarigami, Special Secretary Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone, Principal SKIMS, Dr. G. J. Qadri and Ex-Director Health Prof. M. S. Khuru were also present. Mr. Sharma said that medical profession is a noble one and doctors presumed as next to god on the earth and added that it becomes their duty to attend their patients with proper care and missionary zeal. The Minister said that government is taking some decision to improve services in all health institutions and added that doctors who left the state and are interested to return to their native land will be taken back and adjusted against available vacancies. It was also decided that all those health institutions, which have sufficient men and machinery, would be made to render their services to the patients round the clock, he added. He said where both sub-district hospitals and parimary health centres are existing and have sufficient stock to cater to the need of the area will be shifted to other areas which lack such facilities. He said government will also take appropriate action for special allowance to the doctors who are posted in hilly and far-flung areas besides, decreasing their stay from 2 year to one and half year and arrange timely refresher courses for them. Mr. Sharma said our doctors have achieved super specialities in different disciplines and got name and fame in and outside the country. But he said that there are some complaints of non-practization of professional duties in treating the patients during office hours in the hospitals and diverting patients to their private clinics. He said, “Iam not against the private practice as the government institutions still lack better facilities and patients taking advantage of private clinics”. He said that the government will take appropriate action to make people aware about the professional technicalities facing the doctors in handling cases in different disciplines and harassed. Mr. Sharma said that Union Government has sanctioned funds for upgradation of both Medical Colleges at Srinagar and Jammu to the levels of AIIMS, which will also help to improve medicare facilities in the state. He sought cooperation of the doctors in rendering their services towards the needy and suffering people of the society and added that the government functionaries especially the doctors are the face of the government and have to play a vital role in projecting and implementing the decision of the government taken for the betterment of the general masses. Minister of State for Health Peer Mohammad Hussain and MLA Mr. M.Y.Tarigami also spoke on the occasion and expressed their views on the subject. Earlier, the doctors projected a charter of demands which included rural allowances, two and half day salary for doctors, absorption of ad hoc doctors, risk allowances, transparent transfer policy, rectification of pay anomalies of B-Grade specialists, revision of basic pay of doctors, etc. On that occasion, the Minister also released an annual publication of “Dak voice” published by the Association. The association also presented awards to the eminent doctors and medical professionals who have achieved excellence in their respective field in both the country and abroad. President of the doctors Association Dr. Khalid Parvez presented the welcome address. |
