| Kathua-Doda to decide which Singh is real King | | |
SALMAN NIZAMI Jammu, April 4: As ‘Singh is King’ becomes the satirical buzzword in north Indian politics, a real contest for the real King is here in Kathua-Udhampur-Udhampur Doda Parliamentary constituency where Rajputs dominate the competition scene. Dr Nirmal Singh of BJP today filed his nomination papers among 15 others taking the total number of contestants to 21. Though, the main contest is between Choudhary Lal Singh of Congress and Dr Nirmal Singh of BJP but Prof Bhim Singh of Panthers Party has all the potential of making it a triangular contest and Balbir Singh of Peoples Democratic Party cannot be just counted out as yet another key player. The filing of nomination started from April 4th and fifteen candidates filed their nomination paper today, while six candidates have already filed their nomination earlier, reaching total to twenty on. Security will be on 6th April and withdrawal of names will be on April 8th. “There are differences in every family which are personal but at party level we are all united of which party workers demonstrated today unitedly” said Dr. Nirmal Singh after filing nomination papers. He added that there could be difference of opinion till the party high command take a final decision, after the decision is made by the party there are no difference. However, Ch. Lal Singh was of the opinion that people in the constituency have faith in Congress –NC coalition and have identified the development works successfully executed by Congress in double and triple shifts. While expressing the confidence of victory said that the prevailing political metrics favours him. On the other hand Prof Bhim Singh giving large of having command over three seat already in the constituency said that he and his party is deeply routed across the constituency besides people of Jammu have understood that they need the presentation in the parliament in shape of Bhim Singh who is senior, loyal and authentic. Being all three stalwarts from Rajput families makes it more tough as the constituency comprises of thick number of Brahmin voters and then come muslims and other commuties, Total votes of the constituency is approximately 15,40,523, which indicates that the candidate who polls two to three Lakhs votes could be the winning candidate. Mean while, all the contesting candidates have already started campaigning across the constituency and are addressing number of election rallies and appealing voters to vote for them. Meanwhile, tith the filing of nomination papers by 15 more candidates on the last day today, the total number of candidates who have filed their nomination papers for Udhampur Parliamentary constituency has reached 21. The candidates who filed their nomination papers today include, Dr. Nirmal Singh of BJP, Mr. Ghulam Qadir Wani of SP, Mr. Rajiv Sharma, All J&K Mazdoor Party, Mr. Bishan Dass of Bhartiya Bahujan Party, Kanchan Sharma, covering candidate of Bhartiya Bahujan Party, Adrees Ahmad Tabbasum of CPI, Rakesh Wazir of BSP, Sonia Wazir, covering candidate of BSP, Master William Gill of All India Forward Block and Mr. Dev Raj, Mr. Nek Mohd. alias Nikku Mohd., Mohd. Yousuf, Naresh Dogra, Vishal Sharma and Atul Sharma, all independents. Six candidates have already filed their nomination papers for the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat. They include, Choudhary Lal Singh of Congress, Prof. Bhim Singh of Panthers, Rajesh Manchanda of Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party, Mr. Balbir Singh of J&K People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Anil Kumar of Lok Jan Shakti Party and Mr. Bodh Raj of Backward Classes Democratic Party. The scrutiny of the nomination papers shall be held on April 6 while as April 8 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of the candidature. The Udhampur constituency comprising of 17 Assembly segments spread over 6 districts of Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Reasi are going to polls on April 23 in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.
