Sham Lal Sharma, Commissioner JMC conduct tour in Jammu North

JAMMU, Dec 12: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sham Lal Sharma, accompanied by Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, conducted an extensive tour of Jammu North to inspect water bodies and other ongoing works under the jurisdiction of JMC.
During the tour, they visited several important water bodies, including those at Janipur, Keran Upper Muthi, and Barnai.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sham Lal Sharma highlighted the issue of the depleting water table, attributing it to the lack of water recharging initiatives. He emphasized the importance of preserving rainwater to aid in the replenishment of the water table, stressing that collaborative efforts are needed for effective water conservation. "We have faith in the water bodies, and together we can work towards their preservation," he said.
Appreciating the efforts of the JMC team, led by Commissioner Dr. Yadav, MLA Sharma stated, "We are at the doorstep of the people, working to address their grievances and assess their developmental needs."
The Commissioner underscored that water bodies play significant role in recharging the water table, calling them the primary sources for replenishing groundwater. He assured that the government is focused on the rejuvenation, maintenance, and sanitation of these water bodies. He said that several water bodies within the Municipal limits will be included in the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) Scheme and the Jan Bagidari Scheme for further development.
The Commissioner also instructed the Health officer, JMC to ensure vigilance around these water bodies to prevent garbage dumping. "Any refuse found near the water bodies should be promptly lifted," he directed, emphasizing the need for maintaining cleanliness and protecting these vital water resources.
Among others, Joint Commissioner, Works, Firdous Ahmad Qazi, Deputy Commissioner, North JMC Sanjay Badyal , Health officer, Dr. Vinod Sharma, Executive Engineers, Akhil Dutt and other senior officers of JMC accompanied during the tour.
