SMVDU hosts expert Lecture Series for Bachelor of Design Students

JAMMU, Dec 13: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) recently organized an inspiring Lecture Series for Bachelor of Design (B.Des) students, featuring leading experts in design and innovation. The series covered topics like sustainable design, user-centric innovation, and emerging design technologies.
Prominent speakers included Prof. Mihir Bhole from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad; Dr. Taruna Singh from DTU; Ms. Monica Singh, a renowned artist and designer; and Prof. Ranganath M. Singari, former Head of the Department of Design at DTU. They engaged students with thought-provoking discussions and shared valuable insights.
The event also saw active participation from SMVDU faculty, including Ar. Abhinay Gupta, Dr. Yatheshth Anand (Head, SoME), and Dr. Mir Irfan Ul Haq (Associate Professor, SME), alongside other B.Des faculty members. Interactive sessions offered students a deeper understanding of contemporary design challenges, trends, and the integration of aesthetics and functionality in modern problem-solving.
Prof. Ankush Anand, Coordinator of the B.Des program, highlighted that SMVDU is the first university in Jammu & Kashmir to offer a Bachelor of Design course, mentored by Prof. Lalit K. Das, former Professor of Design at IIT Delhi.
Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, emphasized the significance of such initiatives, stating, "Exposing students to industry experts broadens their perspectives and enhances their ability to apply design concepts practically."
The event received enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged in Q&A sessions and valued the opportunity to connect with industry leaders. SMVDU plans to continue hosting such events to foster innovation and prepare students for thriving careers in design.
