NSS "Veerangna" launches Winter Camp at GCW Jammu

JAMMU, Dec 14: The NSS unit "Veerangna" of Govt. College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, inaugurated a seven-day Winter Camp, aimed at empowering young minds through skill-building workshops, outdoor adventures, and community service activities. The camp, held from December 14 to 20, 2024, spans multiple locations in Bhagwati Nagar, providing 29 enthusiastic participants with an unforgettable learning experience.
The inaugural session began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a vibrant cultural program featuring a dance performance and the NSS song rendition by volunteers.
In her welcome address, NSS Programme Officer Dr. Preeti Salathia outlined the camp's objectives, emphasizing its focus on fostering leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility among students. She highlighted the carefully planned itinerary comprising learning sessions, cultural events, and recreational activities, designed to provide a holistic developmental experience.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol lauded the initiative, stating, "The NSS Winter Camp is a step forward in our mission to mould socially conscious and capable leaders. By blending learning with adventure, we aim to instill values of teamwork, empathy, and perseverance in our participants."
On the inaugural day, Dr. Pavanjit Bali, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and Convenor of the Red Ribbon Club, served as the resource person. She delivered an insightful lecture on "Women Health and Hygiene," addressing essential health practices, menstrual hygiene, affordable and sustainable hygiene products, and dismantling taboos surrounding women's health.
The NSS volunteers also conducted a door-to-door campaign, emphasizing that women's health is a societal issue. They highlighted the importance of empowering women with proper knowledge and resources to uplift the community.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Preeti Salathia. Notable attendees included Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Prof. Anju Bala, Prof. Gaganjyoti, Dr. Mosmi Raina, Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, and others.
This camp promises to be a transformative journey for participants, fostering growth and community impact through diverse activities.
