Early Times Report
BANIHAL, Dec 14: National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen, convened a high-level meeting today to assess the power supply situation in Banihal, Gool, and surrounding areas. The meeting, held at the Conference Hall of GGHS Banihal, included Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) from Banihal and Ramsoo, Tehsildars from Banihal, Khari, Ramsoo, and Ukharhal, along with officials from the Power Development Department (PDD), PHE, Food and Supplies, and the Health Department.
The focus of the meeting was to address the challenges posed by the plummeting temperatures and the increasing hardships faced by residents due to frequent and unscheduled power outages.
Mr. Shaheen expressed deep concern over the unscheduled power outages that have plagued the region, particularly during the harsh winter months. He strongly directed the officials to adhere strictly to the announced power curtailment schedule, warning that any deviations from the schedule would not be tolerated. He stressed that the people of Banihal and Gool should not face additional hardships during the winter, calling for immediate resolution of power outages.
The MLA emphasized the need for prompt action to restore power, particularly in areas affected by damaged distribution transformers. He instructed officials to replace faulty transformers without delay to restore electricity. Mr. Shaheen also highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve the power infrastructure in the region, including steps to address the acute power crisis in Jammu and Kashmir during the winter.
Mr. Shaheen reiterated the National Conference's commitment to resolving the energy needs of the people. He praised the proactive initiative by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has requested an additional 300 MW of electricity from the central government to ease the power crisis during the winter months. He described the Chief Minister's efforts as a reflection of the party's dedication to addressing long-standing issues in the power sector.
The MLA also stressed the importance of combating power pilferage and urged officials to implement stringent enforcement measures to minimize energy losses. He noted that a reliable and equitable power supply system is crucial for the well-being of the public, especially in remote and hilly regions where harsh winter conditions amplify daily hardships. Following the meeting, Shaheen conducted an inspection of the PDD's transformer workshop and the receiving station in Banihal. He took stock of the functioning of both facilities, ensuring that they are equipped and ready to handle the increased demand for power during the winter months.
In conclusion, Mr. Shaheen's review meeting served as a crucial step toward ensuring uninterrupted power supply and addressing the growing concerns of the residents of Banihal, Gool, and the surrounding areas during the winter season.
