Jammu, Apr 5: Jammu and Kashmir academy of art, culture and languages today organized Punjabi Mushaira to commemorate 2nd death anniversary of Tilak Chand Tilak, renowned Punjabi poet of the region.
Commissioner Secretary social welfare department Parmod Jain was the chief guest while Prof. Divender Singh presided on the function.
Jain in his address said that Tilak was the poet who loved his state and its environment and elaborated not only the scenic beauty but also its importance of multicultural multi-lingual unity. He said Tilak was a man of principals and have respect for all cultures and regions.
While delivering the presidential address Prof Singh said that the writers and poets are the assets of the society who lead towards progressive healthy and peaceful future and memorizing this community is a prime duty of the institutions and organizations related to the literature and arts. He congratulated academy for taking an initiative to recall the contribution of great poet of the region Tilak Chand Tilak. While appreciating the contribution of Tilak Chand, Prof. Singh said he was a poet of common masses and reflected social religious ethical and moral values in his poetry. Declaring him as a revolutionary poet Prof. Singh said that he also highlighted the problems of common man.
Earlier welcoming the guests Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said academy is committed to merit the contributions of the great Poets and Writers like Tilak Chand who devoted whole of his life for the betterment of the society as a whole. He said that Academy has initiated a number of activities not only in the cities but in the remote and rural areas of the state.
The poets who recited their poems includes Harmeet Meet, Rajpal Mastana, Bichitar Singh, Harjoot Singh, Sawmi Intern Narow Bhopinder Bhagow, Surinder Nair, Tarun Singh, Kerat Singh Inqlabi, KK Shakir, Prof Jank Singh Kerti and Suraj Parkash.
The vote of thanks was presented by Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary, while Editor Pubjabi Dr. AS Amn conducted the proceedings of the programmes.
