| Shantmanu inaugurates DSC office at Kathua | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Apr 05- Commissioner/Secretary Shantmanu along with Director Soil Conservation, Lal Chand visited Kathua where newly constructed District Office complex building of the department of Soil Conservation Forest ,constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 19.89 lakhs having 2700 Sft area, was inaugurated. Commissioner also inspected magar khad soil conservation Nursery, Sisal farm and Nallah bank control works. The commissioner was informed that 78688 of Sisal plants have been raised during 2008-9 in the Sisdal farm over an area of 30 hectares. In Order to protect the habitation as well as adjoining land from getting washed away due to flash floods during monsoon season, 225 metres pacca bund has been constructed which is further strengthened by laying 60 of crates. Tis work has not only saved the adjoining land and habitation but also reclaimed about 35 kanals of land which has been utilized for raising of sisal plants. In the soil conservation nursery 24800 of forestry plants as well as 50000 of sisal plants have been raised in the nursery viz Bambo, Shisham, Amila, Kachnar, Neem, Babul etc. The commissioner highly appreciated the quality of the building work and especially their reclamation of land and utilization of waste land for raising useful plant species. He asked to extend such like activities in other vulnerable areas in future. Among other ADDC Kathua R.K.Gupta, CPO Kathua Sant Ram, AC Kathua R.C. Puri and other district officers were present on the occasion.
