| Milk production touches 83,000 MTs in Poonch | | | Early Times Report Poonch Apr 5- The milk production touched around 83 metric tons in Poonch district while the Animal Husbandry Department earned revenue of Rs.134.78 lakhs by sale of poultry birds, milk and medicines during last fiscal.. It was informed in the officers meeting presided over by District Development Commissioner, Poonch. Giving a resume of achievements, it was told that 1.44 crore eggs were produced during this period and 3.50 lakh poultry bird population is being maintained and as many as 14700 breeding birds were sold, meeting added. By the concerted efforts of Animal Husbandry Department 4.54 lakh cattle population and 6500 new birth were recorded during the last fiscal year. It was given out in the meeting that focus in paid to increase crossbred cattle population and for this purpose 8796 cows were covered under artificial insemination programme and 2.38 lakh cattle were treated against non-contagious diseases through a network of 85 veterinary units operating in the district. Special attention is focused to provide health care to animals and during said period 2.55 lakh cattle were vaccinated against different diseases.
