JAMMU, Dec 17: The Department of National Security Studies (NSS), Central University of Jammu (CUJ) under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain organised special lecture commemorating 'Vijay Diwas' on the title "The Strategic Brilliance of the 1971 War: Lessons for India's Contemporary Times". The event started with the welcome address by Dr. Neeta Rani, Head of the Department, NSS, CUJ. She welcomed the guest speaker Lt. Col. (Retd.) Ajat Shatroo Jamwal and highlighted the achievements and illustrious career of a veteran soldier and social worker. She underlined the significance of Vijay Diwas for India. She also put on record gratitude to Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain for his continuous encouragement and support for organising such events.
In his special lecture, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Ajat Shatroo Jamwal gave a comprehensive overview of the political and strategic environment that shaped the course of the war, India's involvement and eventually the liberation of East Pakistan in 1971. He highlighted the role played by Indian forces right from organisation to execution and commended the synchronisation and synergy of all the three forces in executing a successful strategy. In his address, he elaborated in detail the multifaceted dimensions of India's national security strategy and how it was implemented. On this occasion, he discussed the evolution of Mukhti Bahini and the decisive role played by them in this struggle. He expressed his dismay over the tacit involvement of United States and commended the supportive role played by Russia. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the contemporary situation in Bangladesh and its ramifications for India. He also elaborated on the relevance of strategy in contemporary times and the need to control the narrative. In conclusion, he stressed on the necessity of countering enemy propaganda, fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, promoting self-reliance (Indigenization), exercising strategic leadership and adopting a comprehensive approach to safeguard India's strategic interests.
The presidential remarks were delivered by Prof. Vandana Sharma, Dean of Languages, wherein she expressed her sincere gratitude on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor for commemorating this day. She elaborated on the resounding success of Indian forces in the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 war with Pakistan. She drew attention to the fact that Lt. Col. 's remarks of "Uthisht Bharat" and the university's goal of "Viksit Bharat" are congruent with one another. She also inspired young minds to take active part in the country's vision of Viksit Bharat. She also encouraged the department to organise more such events that are relevant in contemporary times vis-a-vis India's national security.
