| Western Air Command adds one more feather to its cap | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 5- Western Air Command has come a long way in its glorious journey form being the No. 1 Operational Group formed in August 1947 to a full fledged command of the Indian Air Force on June 10, 1963. It has more than 200 formations under it with a vast responsibility ranging from the icy glaciers and peaks in the Himalayan Region to the scorching deserts of Rajasthan. During peace time Western Air Command has won many laurels for the nation, be it playing crucial role in Operation Safed Sagar, Operation Pawan, UN Peacekeeping Missions in Congo, Sierra Leone and Sudan or rendering yeoman services to the nation in providing Air Maintenance Support in inhospitable terrain and disaster relief during natural calamities like earthquakes, floods and avalanches. Every achievement by Western Air Command has been due to the dedication, selfless commitment to the cause, vision and professionalism of its Air Warriors. Since it is just not ‘kismet’ or luck but also hard work, dedication and professionalism which are the important ingredients of attaining success, this year Western Air Command which contributes to around 35% of the flying efforts of the entire Indian Air Force adds another plume to its cap by achieving NIL flying accident rate for the year 2008-09.This is for the first time in the recorded history of the Western Air Command that such a feat has been achieved. This marks the achievement of yet another target set by Air Marshal P K Barbora Air Officer Commanding in Chief Western Air Command on taking over on January 1, 2008.
