GCW Gandhinagar organizes lecture to celebrates Dogri Manyata Divas

JAMMU, Dec 18: As part of the week-long celebrations commemorating Dogri Manyata Divas, a lecture on the topic "Relevance of Mother Tongue in the Contemporary Period" was delivered by Dr. Varchaskam Sharma, Assistant Professor Department of Sanskrit. The event was organized by the Department of Dogri, Padmashri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, and Jammu and saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and language enthusiasts.
Dr. Sharma, in his insightful address, emphasized the critical role that mother tongues play in preserving cultural identity, fostering emotional connections, and promoting cognitive development. He further elaborated on how globalization and the increasing dominance of major languages have posed challenges to regional languages like Dogri.
Highlighting the significance of Dogri Manyata Divas, Dr. Sharma encouraged attendees to take pride in their linguistic heritage and make active efforts to promote the use of Dogri in daily communication. "Our mother tongue is not just a medium of communication; it is a repository of our traditions, values, and history," he stated.
The lecture was part of a broader initiative aimed at celebrating the recognition of Dogri as one of the official languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The week-long program includes cultural events, poetry recitations, and interactive sessions to raise awareness about the richness and significance of the Dogri language.
In his vote of thanks HOD Dogri, Dr.Tarseem Kumar expressed gratitude to Dr. Varchaskam Sharma for his thought-provoking lecture and to the audience for their active participation. The program continues with more events planned to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Dogri among the community. Dr. Vijender Kumar HOD Sanskrit also express his views on this occasion.Dr.Paramjeet Singh, Dr.Bipan Sharma , Dr.Shashi Bharti and Prof. Jasmeet also grace the occasion with their presence.
