Early Times Report KATHUA, Dec 18: The 13th Police Martyr's Memorial T-20 Cricket Championship 2024-25 was inaugurated today by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, IPS, at the Sports Stadium in Kathua. The event is organized in memory of police martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Anand Jain was joined by DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, and SSP Kathua, Shobhit Saksena, IPS. In his inaugural address, ADGP Jammu paid rich tributes to the police martyrs, reaffirming that the Jammu and Kashmir Police will never forget their sacrifices. He also emphasized the importance of promoting sports to channel the energy of youth in positive directions, urging them to stay away from drugs and social ills, and consider sports as a career option. The championship features 16 teams competing in a league format up to the quarterfinals, followed by knockout rounds. Anand Jain congratulated the Kathua Police and the Shaheed Welfare Committee for organizing the event, noting that such initiatives provide an opportunity for the youth to showcase their talents and boost the morale of participants. In his welcome address, SSP Kathua, Sh. Shobhit Saksena, highlighted the history of the championship since its inception in 2010 and expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries and spectators for their presence. He also acknowledged the efforts of the sponsors and the Shaheed Welfare Committee in organizing the tournament. Other dignitaries present at the event included Rakesh Minhas (IAS), Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Manjit Kour (JKPS), Principal PTS Kathua, Nasir Khan (SP Ops Kathua Kandi), Rahul Charak (JKPS), Additional SP Kathua, DySP DAR Kathua Subash Chander, and other senior police and civil administration officers, along with families of police martyrs, retired officers, and local residents. The event saw a huge turnout of youth and locals, who attended the opening ceremony with great enthusiasm, marking the start of a prestigious tournament that continues to honor the memory of the brave police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. |
