Sadhotra urges artists, intelligentsia to strengthen inclusiveness in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 18: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, called upon artists, writers, intellectuals, and the intelligentsia to play a pivotal role in promoting the rich and inclusive heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. He made this appeal during the inauguration of the National Exhibition of Paintings at Kala Kendra Jammu, organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts. Sadhotra emphasized the vital role of artists in inspiring the youth about the region's glorious past. He warned that if the current generation fails to educate the younger population about their cultural heritage, future generations would regret it. He also pointed out the responsibility of artists in strengthening social cohesion and fostering inclusiveness in a time of growing intolerance and division. The exhibition showcased the works of local artists such as Jang S. Verma, O.P. Sharma, Bhushan Kesar, and others. Sadhotra highlighted the role of artists post-independence in promoting patriotism, nationalism, and communal harmony, and urged them to continue this mission, particularly at a time when societal divisions are on the rise. The former minister recalled the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi during the partition and urged contemporary artists to reclaim that spirit of unity and togetherness that once defined the region. He underscored the importance of strengthening secular values and creating an environment where all citizens, irrespective of their religion, region, or caste, can lead dignified lives. Sadhotra lauded the organizers for their efforts to promote art and culture and expressed confidence that the government, under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, would prioritize issues concerning art and culture. He also commended the young artists whose work was displayed and encouraged them to aim for national and international recognition. The event concluded with appreciation for the grassroots efforts to revive the region's cultural heritage, and Sadhotra hoped that such initiatives would lead to a brighter future for art and culture in Jammu and Kashmir. |
