JAMMU, Dec 19: Dr. Mohan Lal Dogra, a renowned figure in Performing Arts and Education from Jammu and Kashmir, has been honored with the prestigious "Vishawa Ratan Samman - 2024" award. The accolade was presented by the Founder Worthy Wellness Foundation (NGO), recognized by the Government of India, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, for Dr. Dogra's exemplary contributions as the Director of Folk Music and Dance.
Dr. Dogra's work in promoting folk music and dance dramas, popularly known as musical plays, has set a benchmark in the field. His dedication to preserving and showcasing India's rich cultural heritage has earned him numerous accolades, making him a celebrated icon in Performing Arts. Through his authorship of best-selling books, creation of original Dogri songs, and financial support to hundreds of artists, Dr. Dogra has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to uplifting traditional art forms.
With extensive experience working in the Directorate of Field Publicity and the Song and Drama Division under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Dogra has showcased the culture of Jammu and Kashmir at national events such as Kumbh Melas, Ladakh Festivals, and Navratra Festivals. His notable theatrical productions include Maa Sheran Wali, Raja Mandlik, Kathoti Main Ganga, Ram Charit Manas, and Bhasmasur. These works, performed in Dogri, Kumaoni, and Hindustani styles, have received widespread recognition.
A pioneer in cultural education, Dr. Dogra has conducted folk theatre workshops for government school children in collaboration with the J&K Social Welfare Department. He has also created over three dozen dance drama spectacles addressing health and social issues, such as drug abuse and child marriage. His innovative initiatives, including "Saturday Musical Plays" and "Friday Music Concerts," have been instrumental in raising awareness on critical societal concerns.
