JKEEGA announces protest on December 30, demands regularization of engineers
12/19/2024 9:53:29 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduate Association (JKEEGA) has vowed to continue its protest on 30th December 2024, demanding the regularization of engineers in JKPDD as per the 2019 SAC decision. Despite serving a 26-day notice to the government on 4th December 2024, the association has expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress on resolving this issue. The decision to proceed with the protest was taken by the JKEEGA's Guidance Council, the apex body of power engineers in J&K, following no substantial action by the government.
Adhocism and Neglect: JKEEGA has expressed frustration over the continuous adhocism in the JKPDD, with engineers in senior roles such as Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers working at lower grades like Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers. This has led to demoralization and reduced pension benefits.
Lack of Regularization: Despite multiple reminders and Chief Secretary's intervention, the government has failed to act on regularizing the first batch of 250 engineers, and over 2,500 engineers promoted from Junior Engineers to Chief Engineers remain in limbo.
Assured Career Progression: The government's failure to implement the Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme for engineers, which was approved in 2018, has left engineers deprived of career advancement. Similar schemes have been implemented for other departments, but engineers continue to face delays.
Vacancy Crisis: The Power Development Department is facing a significant shortage of staff, with key positions like Managing Directors, Chief Engineers, and Executive Engineers remaining unfilled. The department has seen a rise in assets but lacks adequate manpower for proper supervision.
Overburdened Engineers: Multiple charges assigned to a single person in top-level positions have further strained the performance of the power corporations, impacting the overall efficiency and progress of the department.
JKEEGA has decided to hold a peaceful protest on 30th December 2024 across Jammu and Kashmir, with support from the All India Power Engineers Federation. The protest will focus on addressing the issues faced by power engineers, while ensuring essential services, such as hospitals, are unaffected.
JKEEGA General Secretary Er. Sachin Tickoo and Er. Hidayatullah, along with other executive body members, addressed the press, stressing the urgency of resolving these issues to ensure the growth and development of JKPDD. They also pointed out that engineers, many of whom have received gold medals for their services, have been waiting for years to be. The association urges the government to prioritize these long-pending issues and fulfill the promises made under the SAC decision of 2019, to bring an end to the distress and frustration among engineers in JKPDD.
