| Jugal directs setting of committees for proper up-keep of RSP lavatories, | | | Srinagar, September 22 –Under Rural Sanitation Programme (RSP) more than 54800 lavatories have been constructed in Jammu and Kashmir upto end of August last. There is a target to construct about 5.89 lakh lavatories in the state during four years. This was stated at a high level meeting chaired by Minister for Rural Development Mr Jugal Kishore here today, Secretary Rural Development, Mr. M.S. Khan, Additional Secretary Rural development Mr. Mohammad Ismail Baji, Director Sanitation and other senior officers and District Panchayat Officers attended the meeting. The meeting was told that during about four years of coalition government, Rs 12.38 crore have been spent under Rural Sanitation programme in the state. As many as, 54238 household lavatories and 3234 toilets in schools and another 256 such units in Anganwari centres have been constructed during this period under the programme in the state. Addressing the meeting, Mr Jugal directed for constitution of village level committee for maintenance of these lavatories. He said that teaching staff and school management should be involved in the proper up-keep of such units in educational institutions. |
