GDC Sidhra commemorates Dogri Manyata Diwas

JAMMU, Dec 21: Dept.of Dogri in collaboration with NSS Unit of GDC Sidhra celebrated "Dogri Manyta Diwas" to commemorate the recognition of Dogri Language by the Parliament of India in the year 2003, when it was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Head of the Dogri Department, Prof. Pooja Sharma, delivered an insightful lecture in which she spoke about the significance of Dogri Language and Dogra Culture. She spoke at length about the origin and history of Dogri and stressed on the deep connection between language and culture. She also spoke about the importance of this day. She stressed upon the fact that the preservation of Dogri is integral to safeguarding Dogra heritage.
Students enthusiastically participated in the event. Sunil Kumar of B.A Sem-I presented a speech in which he spoke about the importance of dogri language. After that, Gourav Sharma and Simran Rani of B.A and B.Com Sem-I recited Dogri poems. Kajal Kumari and Kajal of B.A Sem-III and B.A Sem-I presented a lively dance performance set to a Dogri folk song. Ritish Jamwal and Piyush of B.A and B.Com Sem-I danced to the tunes of Dogri songs.
Various faculty members from GDC Sidhra graced the occasion, showing their support for the preservation and celebration of Dogri Language. At last Dr. Harpreet Kour, HoD Political Science spoke on the importance of the day stressing on the fact that we all should adopt dogri in our day to day life so that Dogra heritage and culture can be preserved.
Program concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Pooja Sharma.
Program was organised by Prof. Pooja Sharma, HoD Dogri with active support and coordination of Dr. Anu Sharma along with other NSS Committee members under the able guidance of the Principal of the College, Dr.G.S Rakwal.
