| Muslim students protest SC judge's beard remark | | | Early Times Report Jammu Apr 06- Hundreds of Muslim students of Jammu held a protest demonstration at University of Jammu, here on Monday, to express displeasure over Supreme Court judge Markandeya Katju's observations that growing a beard was akin to promoting 'Talibanisation' in the country. The students from various colleges of Jammu assembled at the University campus, this morning, and held a protest demonstration. They were protesting against the remark of a Supreme Court judge that growing beard and wearing Hijab was promoting Talibanisation in the country. The remarks were passed while rejecting a Muslim student's plea that he be allowed to sport a beard to his school. “We want to send a massage to whole world that Islam is not based on Talibanisation. But it is religion of peace and prosperity”, Zain-ul-Abadin, one of the protesting student said. “We have a constitutional right under Article 26-28, which gives us freedom to practice our religion and there is no interference of Judiciary in any religion”. Another student Rizwan-uz-zaman said that they have due respect to the authority of the Supreme Court, the highest court in India, but at the same time they will not allow will condemn any attempt to defame the religion. “It is not only the Muslims but the entire country should protest against any such remark which are aimed to hurt the sentiments of any community”, he added.
