SMVDU executive council meets
University to introduce two new courses from Aug

Jammu, Apr 6- The 13th Executive Council meeting and the Academic Advisory Committee meeting of Shri Mata Vasihno Devi University, was held at India International Center, New Delhi today. State Governor N N Vohra, who is also the Chancellor SMVD University, chaired both the meetings.
The Academic Advisory Committee appreciated the strides made by SMVDU in creating a distinctive niche for itself in imparting education of highest standards. A working paper “Vision 2020“ was discussed and the University was advised to devise a road map for next 10 years, with an emphasis on synergizing values with technical and professional education.
Considering its strengths in various Schools, the University shall establish Centres of Excellence in the field of Industrial Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Centre for Embedded Instrumentation and Network Controls, Centre for Energy Management and Water Resources and Centre for Entrepreneurial Development.
The University will introduce two new courses from August 2009 onwards in M.Sc. (Biotechnology) and B. Tech. (Electronics and Instrumentation)
The members of the Executive Council also stressed the need to develop value added educational curriculum.
It was also discussed that a Centre for Language Studies should be set up at the Campus with the prime objective of preserving and publishing old and rare Language Scripts of Takri, Arabic, Dogri, Balti, etc.
The Chancellor N.N.Vohra informed the house that the Shrine Board would also work in collaboration with SMVD University through its spiritual centre in preserving rare scripts and other cultural heritage of the State of J&K.
Conservation and preservation of energy and water resources of J&K State was another area of concern and the Vice Chancellor Prof. N.K.Bansal informed the members that the University is starting Short Term courses on Energy Management for officers of the Power Development Department of the State from June 2009.
The Academic Advisory Committee was attended by eminent academicians like, Dr. Kapila Vatsayan, Prof. P.V.Indresan, Prof. V.S.Raju, Prof. Vinayshil Gautam, Sh. R.S.Pawar and B.B.Vyas, CEO SMVDSB.
A high level Committee comprising of VC SMVDU, VC Jammu University and CEO SMVDSB was also constituted by the Chancellor to examine the issue of revision of pay scales for Faculty and Staff which would submit its recommendations to the Chancellor with in a month’s time.
The 13th Executive Council Meeting was attended by Prof. N.K.Bansal VC SMVDU, Prof. Varun Sahni, VC Jammu University, Prof. Riyaz Punjabi, VC Kashmir University, R.S.Pawar, MD NIIT Ltd., Prof. V.S.Raju Former Director IITD, Prof. Vinayshil Gautam, IITD and Sh. B.B.Vyas, CEO SMVDSB. All Deans and senior most Directors of SMVDU also attended the meeting
