Early Times report
Srinagar, Apr 06- Buoyed by the success of the channel at local and national level, the public broadcaster Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar has started extending the horizon of DD Kashir across several continents making its presence felt in as many as 150 countries across the globe.
According to the officials of DD Kashir, the channel has received a huge response from the Non-resident Kashmiris (NRK`s) residing in European, Middle East and several South East Asian countries.
Maintaining that the channel has succeeded to rope-in a huge viewer ship base in Middle East and other European countries where the viewer ship of the channel is increasing with each passing day, a spokesman of the channel said here on Monday “There has been a huge response to the channel from NRK`s putting up in middle eastern countries and parts of Dubai. The feedback which we receive from viewers in these and other countries of the world shows that our programs are being appreciated and watched keenly and have been able to strike the chord of the Non-resident Kashmiris who are living thousands of miles away from their home for several decades now.”
The spokesman said that the response cell of the channel receives scores of emails each day with 90 percent of them from the Non-resident Kashmiris who find the channel a blend of both the traditional and contemporary values.
“The emails which we receive on daily basis indicate that the global viewers particularly the NRK`s appreciate the channel for its traditional content with shades of contemporary art, culture ,music and changing trends among the society portraying the rich and dynamic civilization of the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” said the spokesman.
Quoting an NRK viewer from Dubai Syed Waseem, the spokesman said “The NRK`s have particularly highlighted the role of the phone-in programs like Hello DD, Doctor-on-line and Sitaroon Sey Aagey which met a huge success after it started the KAS counseling series.”
According to the spokesman the channel has also been appreciated for organizing live Natiya Musharias, programs on Eid-milad-un-Nabi and other religious festivals, 3-day series on ‘disturbed area’, awareness program on conservation of Dal Lake, documentaries on legends of Kashmir, magazine programs, talent hunt show- Milay Sur and the much hyped 5-day live music festival Jugalbandi.
Attributing the overall success of the channel to its reach, access and local content which mesmerized NRK`s, Director Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar Dr Rafeeq Masoodi said “Definitely our hard work is being appreciated and we are getting good feedback for the new look and series of programs particularly focused on NRK`s
However, quoting another NRK viewer from Birmingham Shah Faisal, Dr Masoodi said “Its not only the rosy picture. Sometimes we have to face criticism also from our dear NRK viewers who want the channel to be more colorful and demand more programs based on youth.”
