Congress ditches Sikh community, says Charanjit
4/6/2009 11:01:33 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 6- Expressing strong resentment against the CBI’s clean-chit to Jadgish Tytler in 1984 riots, BJP State Secretary S. Charanjit Singh Khalsa today alleged that by giving clean-chit to Tytler, Congress has ditched the entire Sikh community.
Talking to the media persons here at party headquarters, Khalsa said that it is a blot on Indian democracy as deep rooted conspirators in 1984 anti -Sikh riots got clean-chit from CBI. One of the main accused Jagdish Tytler has been given mandate by the Congress to contest Lok Sabha election.
Khalsa said "it was the previous BJP-led NDA government under the leadership of Atal Behari which had appointed Nanavati Commission over 1984 anti-Sikh riots in 2000. It submitted its report in 2004 detailing accusations and evidences against senior members of the Delhi wing of the then ruling Congress Party, including Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar", he said adding, ‘They were accused of instigating mobs to avenge the assassination of Indira Gandhi by killing Sikhs in their constituencies’.
He said "it is very strange that CBI rejected the statement of prime witness Jasbir Singh, now in California, who alleged that he had heard Tytler making a comment with regard to killing of Sikhs in his erstwhile constituency (Delhi Sadar) in 1984".
Saying that it a mockery with the suffering of victims of 1984 riots, Khalsa appealed to Sikh community to reject and struck all the relations with Congress which has ditched the community particularly victims of anti-Sikhs riots in 1984 who were looking for justice for the last 25 years.
The BJP leader maintained that if BJP is voted to power at centre it will raise this issue and will bring justice for the victims.
Highlighting the plight of Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir, he said Sikhs since independence have been ignored by the successive state governments as Sikhs who migrated from PoK have been denied rights.
"During the rule Maharaja Hari Singh, two seats, one each from Kashmir and Jammu had been reserved for Sikh community which had been ignored under National Conference and Congress till date", he said and demanded restoration of genuine rights to the community.
‘Although under Jammu and Kashmir constitution 24 seats have been reserved for PoK in the state assembly, but till date no one from the successive state governments have taken single measure to provide right to refugees which is sheer example of discrimination with the members of the community", he alleged. He maintained that BJP is the need of the hour, so vote for BJP to undo the wrongs done by the Congress and the National Conference.
BJP leaders S. Harjit Singh and S. Kirtan Singh were also present at the press conference.
