37000 hectares covered under Kharif crops in Kup

Srinagar, September 22 –The Agriculture Department has covered 37000 hectares of land under high yielding variety of seeds during current kharief season which include paddy, maize, pulses, fodder and vegetable cultivation in Kupwara district.
This was stated at officer meeting held at Kupwara to review the progress achieved during the first 6 months of current financial year.
It was given out that 1800 quintals of high yielding seeds were distributed among the farmers during the current kharief season, while 7200 MTs of different kinds of fertilizers besides 44800 hectares of land were covered under plant protection scheme. It was told that under cooperative sector, 210 establishments are functioning in the district which includes 152 cooperative societies’ outlets. The societies have earned Rs 5 crore as income during the last financial year. Under Labour sector, 59 cases have been taken for settlement, of which 19 were disposed off and Rs 22.27 lakh paid as compensation during the period.
