| Ensure availability of rations at sale outlets | | within first fortnight: Slathia to officers | | Early Times report
rinagar, April 06 –Stressing the need for further streamlining the functioning of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department, the Minister for CA&PD Mr. S. S. Slathia has directed the senior functionaries to ensure that rations are available at all the sale outlets within first fortnight of every month. He said this would be a major relief to the rationees living in far flung areas of the Valley. He urged the field functionaries to ensure availability of foodgrains to the people living in remote and inaccessible areas within the time frame. He warned that laxity and dereliction of responsibilities by any officer, in this behalf, would not be tolerated.
Chairing a maiden meeting of the officers of Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution, department of Kashmir division at Srinagar today, the Minister spelled out measures being taken for streamlining the public distribution system in the Valley with reference to various centrally sponsored schemes like BPL, AAY and Anpurnia. In this back drop, he directed that trucks transporting ration should carry banners of PDS and that of category of APL, BPL etc. to prevent seepage of PDS ration to open market. He also directed that gunny bags should be labelled as APL, BPL etc. to indicate category. This, he said, would facilitate distribution of food grains to CA&PD depots.
The meeting, among others, was attended by Secretary, Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution, Mr. K.B. Jandial, Director, Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution, Kashmir, Mr. Mehraj-ud-Din Kenoo, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of the Valley.
Underlining the need for rationalizing the distribution of kerosene, the Minister directed the officers that the kerosene oil dealers should be asked to distribute kerosene among the people only under the supervision of officers of Consumers Affairs & Public distribution to check its black marketing.
Mr. Slathia called for further gearing up Enforcement Wing to ensure availability of essentials to the people at prescribed rates besides intensifying market checkings. He stressed for activating monitoring system and conducting frequent inspections of sale centres to check pilferage of supplies.
The meeting was informed that presently 4.30 lakh quintals of rice, one lakh quintals of wheat and 54,175 quintals of sugar are in stock at various sale depots in the Valley. Besides, about one lakh cooking gas cylinders and 33 lakh litres of kerosene oil are available with oil companies.
