| Rev collection includes Rs 257 Cr from VAT | | Commercial tax revenue worth Rs 458 Cr in 11 months | | Early Times Report
Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir Commercial Taxes Department (JKCTD) has earned a revenue of Rs 458.17 crore during the first 11 months of the last fiscal, an increase of 16.79 per cent over the corresponding period of 2007-08, a spokesperson of the department said on Monday.
He said this substantial increase has resulted due to introduction of Value Added Tax, which contributed Rs 257 crore to the total revenue collection.
Meanwhile, state Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, chairing a maiden meeting of Commercial Taxes department, Kashmir division, here, took a serious note of huge arrears against various corporations, traders and other agencies and called upon the officers of the department to leave no stone unturned in recovering the pending dues.
He called for an effective monitoring of tax realisation, adding that transparency and efficiency should be maintained at all levels. He said it is the collective duty of all of us to build a strong edifice for the sustained development of the state.
Impressing upon the Excise and Taxation officers to exhibit their proficiency and ability in building up a healthy financial architecture in the State, Rather urged them to adopt a positive and friendly approach towards the people while discharging their duties which would help in yielding more revenue to the department and the state as a whole.
He made it amply clear that merit, performance and proper delivery of the officers would be the benchmark for their promotion.
The minister asked the senior functionaries of the department, including Commissioner-Secretary Finance Sudhanshiv Panday; Commissioner Commercial Taxes Khwaja Bashir Ahmad; Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes Mir Mushtaq; Deputy Commissions Taxes and all Excise and Taxation Officers of the division to set targets for their subordinate field staff and ensure these were achieved within 11 months.
