| NC rule has returned with instability, uncertainty, insecurity: Mufti | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 6: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today claimed that the National Conference (NC) regime had returned in the state with a fast growing sense of instability, uncertainty and insecurity as the peace process and reconciliation, according to him, had taken a backseat.
Addressing a convention of the PDP workers from Hazratbal constituency here today, Sayeed said the atmosphere of relaxation and optimism that was visible in the State after the 2002 assembly elections following some landmark political and economic initiatives taken by the then PDP-led Coalition Government, is unfortunately being fast replaced by skepticism and discontent, even though people had participated much enthusiastically in 2008 polls as compared to 2002.
“Lack of concrete political and economic agenda for governance, waning interest in the peace process and slow-down of the reconciliation process seem to be the major contributory factors towards the growing public cynicism,” he said.
Cautioning against complacency in view of the substantial participation of the people in the 2008 assembly polls, Sayeed said the State and the Central Government must wake up to the new challenging situation that has started developing in the region which could have immediate fall-out on Jammu and Kashmir. “The Government must act with maturity and resolve to prevent the State from falling back into another the vortex of gloom and mayhem,” he said and added that the people of the State have already suffered immense physical and psychological agonies during the two-decades of turmoil and they can’t afford to undergo the trauma of such a wretched situation once again.
Sayeed said Jammu and Kashmir is at the thresh-hold of far-reaching consequences and the occasion is appropriate for a meaningful break-through for the ultimate and amicable settlement of the issue. He said people of the State now yearn for security through development and not through arms. “Amid the fast-changing scenario in the region, the priority for the Government, both at the Center and in the State should have been resolution, security and economic development of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said and added that the present Government in the State seems to have put all these crucial issues on the back-burner and is indulging more in political brinkmanship than addressing the issues concerning the security and prosperity of the State and its people. “The present dismaying scenario has, unfortunately, once again started brewing disillusionment and disappointment among the masses to the great detriment of the peace efforts,” he said.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, Senior Vice-President Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Anasri and the party’s candidate for Hazratbal Assembly segment, Asiya Naqash, were also present on the occasion. |
