THANNAMANDI, Dec 31: The Department of Botany in collaboration with Campus Beautification Committee of Government Degree College Thannamandi organized a plantation drive to celebrate New Year as part of Viksit Bharat @2047 Abhiyan here today.
One Day plantation drive organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of the College, on this occasion wherein students of Botany Department including Nursery and Gardening were involved in raising beds and plantation of seasonal plants. Dr. Ashaq Malik, Head, Department of Botany and Prof. Fatima Parveen Convener, Campus Beautification Committee at GDC Thannamandi co-ordinated the event.
While terming plantation the best way to welcome New Year 2025, Prof. Farooq Ahmed emphasized upon the need to plant more and more plants on every occasion to conserve biodiversity, environment and more importantly combat climate change. He appreciated the enthusiasm of the organizing team, especially the budding botanists towards this green celebration and expressed hope for more such plantation drives in the upcoming year.
The program aimed to inspire students and faculty to understand practical aspects of Botany as well as draw deeper connections with biodiversity and environment conservation besides developing a cavernous sense of belongingness towards their college campus and making it more green, attractive, lively and beautiful.
