Mahavir Jayanti celebrated with fervor, gaiety

Jammu, Apr 7: The Jayanti of Bhagwan Mahavir was celebrated with full religious fervour and gaiety here today. On the occasion a function was organized by Jain Sabha, The Dy. Chief Minister, Tara Chand was the chief guest, while MLA, Ashok Khajuria presided over the function.
On the occasion both the leaders paid their tributes to Bhagwan Mahavir and urged upon the people to follow the path of Ahimsa Show by the lord. A vardhman bal-vatica was inaugurated by the chief guest on the occasion, started by Mahavir Jain educational society.
President of the sabha, Virender Jain presented a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister demanding that Jains who are merely 2% of the total population in the state must be given minorities status as has been granted in many neighboring states including Delhi. He apprised the Deputy Chief Minster that Sabha has applied for the allotment of land at Khanpur near Nagrota. The proposal of allotment has been approved by all the departments and lying pending with the Revenue department, President of the Sabha requested the Minister to use his good offices to get the file through. Sabha also demanded that the Chowk between Panama Chowk, Green Belt and gen. Zoravar Singh may be named as Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk and the road between the said chowk and Gen. Zorawar Singh Chowk be named after Bhagwan Mahavir.
Tara Chand assured the sabha that he shall arrange a meeting of the representatives of Jain Sabha with Chief Minister to get their demands met. As regards the naming of road and chowk he said that this needs a resolution from the Municipal Corporation to which all the corporators present agreed and ensured an early resolution in this regard.
General Secreatary of the Sabha, Virender Jain Babbi conducted the proceedings of the function. Among those who were present in the function included corporators Ashok Dogra, Zafar Khan, Priya Sethi, Parjan Jain, Rajesh Jain, Sanjay Jain, Rajeev Jain, Pankaj Jain, Sandeep Jain.
Among others present on the occasion were former Dy. Chief Minister, Mangat Ram and commissioner Secretary special welfare, Parmod Jain etc.
