SP leaders condemn bias behaviour RO Kathua
4/7/2009 10:52:25 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Apr 7: The J&K Samajwadi Party (SP) president Sheikh Abdul Rehman and Gh. Qadir Wani, Party candidate of Kathua-Udhampur parliamentary constituency, in a joint press statement issued here have strongly condemned the biased and dictatorial behaviour of Returning Officer (RO) Kathua- Udhampur constituency while rejecting the nomination papers of SP candidates Wani in her office at Kathua on April, 6th.
As per press release SP leaders reacting strongly to the undemocratic and illegal rejection of nomination papers have termed it as a deep rooted conspiracy of some communal elements who made the Returning Officer as a tool to accomplish the illegal designs to keep away the most time tested secular credentials of Samajwadi Party candidates. They further added that it has been a history in the state where democracy has not been allowed to flourish independently and impartially since independence. They paid 1952,1957 and 1962 as many as 74, 52 and 39 candidates in the state assembly have been declared successful unopposed by rejecting nomination papers of opposition party candidates on flimsy grounds under a well hatched conspiracy there by hackling the democratic process in the state and same history has been repeated this time also in the Lok Sabha election, the SP leader said.
They said in a respect of BJP candidate Nirmal Singh, he was allowed to sign the nomination papers by the Returning Officer in her presence, the SP leader was not allowed to do so and his papers were rejected in dictatorial manner. As per norms laid down in the People’s Representation Act, under normal circumstances, the nomination papers are not rejected on minor/flimsy grounds but the Returning Officer showing utter haste and partiality, rejected the nomination papers of SP candidate ignoring clear directions of the election commissioner.
