| Gupta term Article 370 obnoxious mother of many evils | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 7: The former Union Minister and leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has ridiculed the statement of the chief minister, Omar Abdullah that no one can abrogate the Article 370 granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Prof. Gupta pointed out that in the Constitution itself this Article has been included as a ‘Temporary Provision’ and by his assertion the Chief Minister is voicing and giving vent to his inner mindset of distancing this state from rest of India under communal consideration. Addressing a meeting of the party activist on the issue of separate status to Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Gupta terms Article 370 as obnoxious and mother of many evils including that of terrorism, secessionism, fundamentalism, inhumane, undemocratic acts of the rulers, discriminatory as also the main reason for unemployment and many other problems facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He observed that Article 370 was included in the Constitution as a temporary provision but for pacifying the communal instinct of Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah and his colleagues who wanted to have limited accession with India. But the then Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru had himself assured the patriotic leaders of the country that Article 370 would wither away with the passage of time but it was unfortunate that the National Conference as also certain Congressmen are still not only defending the retention of this symbol of communalism and that of threat to unity of the country., But were talking about the reversal of integration process that has taken place over the years and raising the slogans of putting that state back to the position of pre-1953, when the Sheikh was deposed and jailed by none else but by his own colleagues of the National Conference and those of Congress. He maintained that Article 37 can be abrogated through various measures including a presidential order and the parliament itself as on the very face of it the provision is ‘temporary’.
