| Traders protest against lack of basic amenities in Surankote | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Poonch: Traders association Surankote blocked the Jammu-Pooch highway for several hours Tuesday in protest against the lack of basic amenities in the area, sources told PBI.
Sources told Press Bureau of India that the traders association staged a sit-in protest near Surankote this morning and blocked the traffic on the highway.
The Trader body Surokote headed by president Shanty Manhas alleged shortage of water and electricity in the various villages of the Surankote. The traders President also alleged loss of business to many traders on account of the decrepit condition of the roads.
Sources said that Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Shabas Mirza along with other officials had to face hostile mob and failed to pacify the demonstrators who continued with their protests despite downpour.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway for several hours, the sources added.
