| Ravi guides WCC to 5-wkt win | | 3rd Tickoo-Drabu memorial cricket tourney beings | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 7: With four wickets and 36 runs, young and upcoming cricketer, Ravi Pandita helped Whites Cricket Club (WCC) to a five-wicket win over Reasi Cricket Club in the opening match of 3rd Tickoo-Drabu memorial cricket tournament started today at MA Stadium, here. Though the victory for WCC came only in the last over, sparing two deliveries, still the side exhibited better game in both bowling and batting departments. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Reasi Club bowled out for 141 runs in 28.1 overs of the 30 overs match. Dev was top scorer with 24-ball 32 runs including two sixes and an equal number of boundaries. Arif played a patient innings of 19 runs while Dinesh contributed 16. Tale-ender Surinder added valuable 15-ball 15 runs and added 45 runs for the last wicket partnership with Dev thereby bringing the total from 84 for nine to 141 runs. Spinner, Rohit Pandita bowled brilliant spell taking away four wickets for 21 runs in six overs while his elder brother, Ravi Pandita bagged three for 47. Rakesh claimed one. Chasing a target of near five-run per over, WCC made a good start but slowed down in the middle of their innings and could make it a win only in the last over. Amit was top scorer with 58 runs came off 62 deliveries studded with three sixes and five hits to the fence. Ravi Pandita contributed 36. Mosin and Rakesh added 15 and 14 runs respectively. Surinder was most successful bowler from Reasi Club, who claimed three wickets giving away 30 runs in 4.4 overs he bowled. Rinku and Sunny shared apiece each. For his all-round performance, Ravi Pandita was declared man of the match. Today’s match was officiated by Sanjay and Sadiq as umpires while Vijay was scorer. Earlier, the fortnight long championship was declared open by the former Deputy Chief Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma, who was chief guest in the inaugural function held this afternoon. Prominent among those present were M L Nehru, C L Charangoo, Ashutosh Sharma and Ramesh Mahajan. NEXT MATCH: Rainawari Cricket Club to meet Kathua XI at 8.30 am tomorrow.
