| Massive combing operation launched in Jammu outskirts | | Two suspects lifted for questioning | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 7: Amidst rising security concerns and inputs on militants’ presence to cause disruption during the ongoing elections the eastern outskirts of the winter capital city have been dotted with the troops as a massive combing operation is underway. Hundreds of cops of Jammu and Kashmir Police assisted by Army soldiers under supervision of over two dozen senior officers fanned out in Bathindi, Sunjwan, Narwal and adjoining areas since this morning to look for the militants whom they believed were hiding in the areas. After daylong of search operation the forces picked up a suspect from Bathindi, who is reported to be a resident of Awantipora, for questioning. The search operation is still going on. While the suspect resident of Awantipura was put on interrogation in Trikuta Nagar police station, one more suspect was lifted from Mahore area identified as Abdul Rashid son of Ghulam Ahmed by police and was sent to Joint Interrogation Centre,Jammu for questioning where his interrogation was on till last reports came in. Police was reportedly informed by the intelligence agencies that some militants might have managed to sneak into the city and were hiding in the outskirts. The claim was based on the conversation of the militants intercepted by the intelligence agencies, sources said adding, a high alert was sounded in the city and police was asked to maintain a close vigil at all the sensitive places. The Police and SOG also launched a massive search operation in Bithandi, Narwal, Qasim Nagar and Sunjwan areas this morning and the operation continued till this evening. Senior police officers including Deputy Inspector General (DIG) AQ Manhas and SSP Jammu Manhor Singh were personally supervising the operation, sources added. As the search team failed to get any breakthrough, sources said the concerned police stations have been asked to tighten the vigil within their jurisdiction so as to avoid any untoward incident. Jammu and Kashmir is already on toes amid the intelligence inputs that militants were planning to strike in public places during the upcoming general elections. Paramilitary forces have started intense patrolling and taken up adequate security measures through deployment of armed personnel to prevent any militant attacks in Jammu and Srinagar. Sources claimed that the plan of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) to strike in Jammu during the elections was disclosed by one of its cadre, who was arrested by the Jammu police recently. Meanwhile, Radio conversation intercepted between Lashkar terrorists reveal that around 35 terrorists have entered the country through Gurez sector, near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports. The infiltration attempt began around March 26. According to media reports, intellegence sources have said that around 28 of the 35 terrorists belong to Taliban and nine to Laskar outfit. One terrorists has been reportedly killed in the encounter by the security forces who have engaged the rest near Gurez. Hijbul Mujahideen is believed to be helping the terrorists to enter the country. As a response, the Home Ministry has said that they will neutralise all the threat
