| Friend ‘dupes’ bridegroom of bride | | | Early Times Report Baramulla, Apr 7: It sounds as a ludicrous tale or a scene from a Bollywood melodrama but the incident actually happened in a North Kashmir village. A wedding party accompanying a bridegroom reached the venue to solemnize marriage but there was none to receive –not even the bride. A bizarre incident as it was, a close friend duped a thirty-year-old man of his ‘bride’ in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Abdul Rahim Kumar dressed like bridegroom, Sunday left his home at Barnate, Boniyar Uri along with four special guests for Keeri Baramulla to get married. However, on reaching Kreeri, Kumar was stunned when he saw himself in embarrassing position with no celebrations and no one to ‘marry’ him at the designated address. The story goes like this, one of the close friends of the man, Ghulam Rasool Parray of Hall-Jageer Kreeri introduced Kumar to a girl who he said was his orphaned niece. After meeting the girl Kumar and his family settled an engagement and Rs 32000 was fixed as Mehar. Kumars family also gifted the bride with gold and other items, amounting to 2.5 lakh rupees. Eventually the marriage date was set for April 5 and the accused, Ghulam Rasool Parray, asked him to bring Bharat to an address other than his house. On the day, when the marriage party reached the designated house, they came across a shocking revelation, as no bride was there to marry Kumar. After rumpus and chaos, the matter was eventually brought into the notice of the police who have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. “We have registered a case under FIR 17/09 under section 420 and started investigations into the matter,” Station House Officer of Police station Kreeri, Shakeel Ahmad told Press Bureau of India. He said that the case was first of its kind and account for fraud.
