Kapur inaugurates painting exhibition at Kala-Kendra

JAMMU, April 08- Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur inaugurated a painting exhibition organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art and Culture Languages at Kala-Kendra here today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the paintings drawn by artists are reflection of the surrounding and the happenings around, which don’t speak but indicate a lot. Pondering over the lovely outlines of the paintings drawn by the artists, he said that Art pieces by the painters always captivate the onlookers and urge them to come close to the nature.

The Chief Secretary said that there was great scope for promoting art in the State by encouraging the young artists and painters by providing every support to them. He appreciated the paintings displayed in the exhibition and said that these were rear treasure to be preserved for future generations.

Mr. Kapur also visited the Basohli Art Gallery in the Kala-Kendra and interacted with the artists on the job. He showed keen interest in the Basohli paintings and suggested for promotion of Basohli art. He asked the Secretary Culture Academy to extend the support to artists at district levels to promote and preserve the local art.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Culture Academy Mr. Zaffer Iqbal Manhas said that Academy was taking all necessary measures for promotion of art across the State. He said that the academy was organizing art exhibitions not only within the State but outside the State as well. He said that one such exhibition was held at New Delhi from February 23 to March 2, 2009. He said Culture Academy has a pride privilege of a rich collection of about 200 miniature paintings. Over the years, the collection of rare paintings by internationally reputed artists grew as a result of Artist Camps organized by the Academy at various venues. He said huge collection of paintings created during these artist camps became not only the Academy’s great treasure but of the nation at large.
