JU Boys Hostel Honors Swami Vivekananda’s Legacy

Jammu, Jan 12: In a simple yet significant event of far-reaching value, the Provost Boys Hostel, University of Jammu, observed National Youth Day with great enthusiasm, commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a revered spiritual leader and youth icon.
The celebration featured a thought-provoking discussion on Swami Vivekananda’s life and teachings, led by the hostel’s boarders.
The discussion highlighted his philosophy and relevance in contemporary times, emphasizing the importance of his teachings in addressing modern social issues. Prior to the discussion, floral tributes were paid to Swami Vivekananda by the guests and boarders.
Eminent guests, including Ajay Sharma, SP South Jammu; Dr. Varinder Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Excise & Taxation, Shimla; and Pankaj Khajuria, Senior Journalist, shared their valuable insights on Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and their applicability in modern times.
SP Ajay Sharma particularly emphasized the importance of emulating Vivekananda’s teachings to counter current social issues, such as drug addiction and pollution. Pankaj Khajuria made a fervent appeal to the boarders to become a catalyst for social change and congratulated the boarders and hostel administration for organizing the event.
The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. Lalitsen Sharma, Provost, Boys Hostel, University of Jammu; Dr. Ripudaman Parihar, Warden; Dr. Vimal Kishore, Resident Warden; Dr. PP Singh, Resident Warden; and Dr. Nitan Sharma, Resident Warden, Jambu Lochan Boys Hostel.
The boarders, including Avinash Choudhary, Gagandeep Singh Sasan, Sunil Singh, Shivam Sharma, and Syed Waqar, also shared their views on the role of youth in contemporary society.
As part of the celebration, the participants took a pledge to promote sustainable development under the Mera Yuva Bharat Campaign, emphasizing their commitment to social responsibility.
The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets and a formal vote of thanks by Dr. PP Singh. Sanak Srivats conducted the proceedings of the program.
