Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Jan 13: The NSS Unit of Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur, successfully concluded its Seven-Day Special Winter Camp on the theme "Youth for Sustainable Development." Held from January 6 to January 12, 2025, the camp aimed to empower youth with actionable strategies for sustainable development and community welfare. The camp was inaugurated by Lt. Colonel Balwant Singh, who urged students to champion sustainable practices and contribute to nation-building. The first day included physical exercises and a cleanliness drive in the college canteen area, emphasizing hygiene and shared responsibility.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in diverse activities, including:
Social Responsibility: A visit to Bal Ashram, fostering awareness of community care.
Awareness Campaigns: Poster making, quizzes, and door-to-door campaigns on "Nasha Mukta Bharat," highlighting the perils of drug abuse.
Environmental Initiatives: Campus beautification, plantation drives, and village cleanliness efforts in Rathain to address water conservation and sanitation.
Educational Programs: Extension lectures on yoga, Ayurveda, women's rights, and environmental conservation.
Creative Engagements: Poster-making competitions and cultural programs that combined awareness with artistic expression.
The adoption of Rathain village underscored the NSS Unit's commitment to grassroots impact, with activities focused on improving local water bodies and sanitation. Additionally, a lecture on entrepreneurship under Mission Yuva encouraged students to innovate and embrace self-reliance.
The camp concluded with a valedictory function, where Principal Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania commended the efforts of the NSS Unit and participants. "The camp is a testament to the power of youth in driving sustainable development, fostering leadership, and uplifting society," she remarked.
The week-long initiative left a lasting impact, inspiring students to continue their contributions toward a sustainable and equitable future.
