| Decline in Jammu voters doubtful: Chaman | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 9- Smelling foul in the drastic cut in the number of electorates of Jammu region and their big addition in the Valley of Kashmir, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, has impressed upon the Election Commission of India to have a deep probing in the episode especially when during the past so many years the number of Jammu voters was quite higher than those of the Valley, both at the time of Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. If a certain number of voters in Jammu areas had died or shifted to other places, this phenomenon should have been higher in the troubled Valley of Kashmir because of killings in the terrorist violence and migration of large number Kashmiri Pandits and others than those of less disturbed areas of Jammu region, he added and observed that this mysterious decrease in number total number of electorates of Jammu region has been listed after the Coalition of the Congress-National Conference have come into being, who have been notorious for such manipulations in the past too. In a statement here today, Prof. Gupta recalled that both the National Conference and the Congress had been playing fraud with the electoral process right from 1951 and when ever they were in power the poll process was made a mockery in many ways. In 1951 Elections in this State the leaders of these two parties had manipulated the “unopposed victories” in as many as 71 seats out of the total 75-member House where there was not a single member of the opposition till 1953, when the National Conference leader Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah was deposed and jailed by his own colleagues of the National Conference and those of Congress. The BJP leader questioned that how suddenly the number of electorates of Kashmir Valley could increase much higher than those of Jammu when in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001 2004 and even in 2008, it was bigger than Kashmir Valley. This mysterious increase must get independent probing to expose the guilty. The credentials in this regard of the National Conference leaders have already been under cloud as they had manipulated in the 2001 Census and then also had amended the State Constitution to put an embargo that there would be no Delimitation of Assembly constituency till 2026, which indicates their designs to deprive the people of their due empowerment. He asked the electorates to take note of the developments and ask the leaders of the coalition especially those of the Congress to explain that how the number of Kashmir voters has increased than those of Jammu and who is responsible for this change. The total number of electorates across the State has crossed 65 lakh figure and stood at 65, 58, 957 while the number of voters in the State during 2008 Assembly polls was 64.96 lakhs, he pointed out.
