Full Court Reference to mourn Justice Gupta’s death

Jammu, Apr 09- To mourn the sad demise of Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta who passed away on April 5 at PGI Chandigarh , a Full Court reference was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Barin Ghosh here today.
Paying rich tributes to late Justice Gupta, the Chief Justice said that being the District and Sessions Judge, Justice Gupta complied a book on High Court Rules and Letters Patent, Illustrious notes, which are full of citations . The legal fraternity has been greatly benefited by the said work of Justice late Gupta. He further said that Justice Gupta had also the distinction of working as a Principal Secretary to Chief Justice of High Court twice and also functioned as Registrar General of the High Court of J&K. On November 3, 2008 he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the State High Court and took oath on November 5, 2008. Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta presided as Judge of High Court effectively until January 3, 2009, where upon he could not attend the Court.
In his short span of time a number of elucidating judgments were rendered by him and the last judgment rendered by him was on February 26, 2009 sitting with Justice YP Nargotra in a Division Bench. This landmark judgment of the Division Bench related to grant of HRA & CCA benefits to the migrants employees
Chief Justice on behalf of brother judges expressed heart felt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family and prayed to the almighty to give them courage to bear this loss. Thereafter a minute silence was observed in remembrance of departed soul. The State was presented by Advocate General MI Qadiri and Bar was presented by its President Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi in the full court reference. All the judges of the High Court Jammu and Subordinate Judges were present. After the reference the Court work remained suspended for the remaining day. JNF
