| Ansari may be PDP nominee in Srinagar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 9- Since the PDP leadership believes that the voters in Kangan, Ganderbal ,Beerwah, Budgam, Chadoora were going to decide the outcome of the Lok Sabha poll results from Srinagar constituency it may give the party mandate either to Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari or to Ghulam Nabi Lone. Though there are three more aspirants, including Qazi Mohammed Afzal and Abdul Rashid Kabuli, for the party mandate the majority of the members of the Political Affairs Committee of the PDP favour either the Molvi or Lone. Molvi Ansari, according to sources close to him, has not decided anything. He may favour Ghulam Nabi Lone's candidature. Molvi Ansari believes that the right PDP candidate could upset the apple cart of the National Conference because the Srinagar city's eight Assembly segments, considered to be the National Conference stronghold, were likely to witness poor polling. Experts said that during the recent Assembly election these eight seats registered not more than 18 to 20 per cent polling when the overall polling percentage was over 63 per cent. One thing is certain that it will be a straight contest between the PDP and the National Conference irrespective of the fact that more than three candidates were in the field in these three constituencies of the valley. Indications are that the PDP leadership may finalize the party candidate for Srinagar constituency either today or tomorrow. It has already announced the names for Anantnag and Baramulla constituencies against this the NC has announced the names for only Anantnag constituency and it has to decide on Srinagar and Baramulla constituencies. |
