| Sadhotra chairs high-level PAC meet, reviews settlement operations | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 22 - Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee has urged the need for completing the settlement work in the State speedily and directed the Revenue authorities to take steps in this direction. The officers assigned with this specific job should be made accountable for achieving the targets, the Committee asserted. The PAC that met here today with MLA Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra in chair reviewed the progress of settlement operations at the tehsil level, taken up by the Revenue Department during the year 1991. The Committee directed revenue authorities to gear up its efforts and complete the work as early as possible. All bottlenecks coming in the way should be cleared without further loss of time. The Committee opined that the issue of settlement is very sensitive and directly related with the common masses at the ground level and authorities should execute the work with all its seriousness. The Committee suggested that Deputy Commissioner concerned should be made nodal officer at district level and Divisional Commissioners should monitor the progress of work at the divisional level periodically. The stress was laid that the staff engaged with settlement work should not be shifted unless they complete the specific work assigned to them. The Committee directed the Financial Commissioner, Revenue Mr. G.D.Wadhwa present in the meeting to monitor the progress personally so that the work could be completed in a time frame. He was further asked to fix responsibility for delay in the process and initiate action against the poor performers, the Committee added. The Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Commissioner/Secretary Revenue, Settlement Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of all Valley districts apprised the Committee about the progress of settlement operations. They also apprised the committee about various difficulties being faced by them like paucity of trained staff, shortage of Electronic Total Station (ETS) machines, Computers, overlapping of areas and staff etc. The officers, however, assured the Committee that all out efforts would be made to complete the operational work within next three to four years. Among others, the meeting was attended by legislators, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, Ms. Sakina Ittoo, Mr. Sartaj Madni, Mr. Javed Rana, Mr. Abdul Ghani Malik, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmed Dar, Accountant General, J&K, Ms. Gazala Meenai, Secretary Legislative Assembly, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Ganai, Additional Secretary Mr. Mohammad Ramzan, Director Accounts & Treasures, and all senior revenue officers engaged with the settlement work of Valley districts. |
