| Rahul Baba may campaign in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 9- Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary is likely to campaign for the Congress candidate in Jammu-Poonch constituency on April 14,the last day for electioneering for the first phase. The leadership of the state unit had requested the AICC Chief, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to campaign for the party candidate in Poonch-Jammu constituency but the two leaders expressed their inability to visit Jammu because of pressing engagements in other states. The party will depute the AICC General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi, for campaigning in favour of Madan Lal Sharma who had won the seat in 2004 election. Congress leaders said that the party candidate had an edge over his rivals after the BJP candidate, Leela Karan Sharma, had not succeeded in raising a wave in his favour as he had done when he headed the Sangarsh Samiti. The leaders claim that majority of people in the constituency feel that the Samiti leaders have not stuck to their policy of remaining a non political. A section of the Congress leaders are of the opinion that the voters in Poonch-Rajouri belt may turn the tide against Leela Karan Sharma. Party sources said that Sonia Gandhi or Manmohan Singh may visit either Kathua or Udhampur in connection with their campaign in favour of the party candidate, Lal Singh. Senior congress functionaries may also visit Ladakh constituency which has been given to the Congress to contest. It has not been decided whether any top Congress leader may visit Kashmir for pre-poll campaign because under the agreement between the Congress and the National Conference all the three seats have been allotted to the NC.
