Awareness programme on Road Safety held

BASOHLI, Jan 15: An awareness programme on road safety was conducted at Govt. Degree College (GDC) Basohli as part of the ongoing Road Safety Month celebrations across Jammu & Kashmir and India. The event was attended by students, faculty, and staff members, emphasizing the importance of road safety measures.
Girdhari Lal Sharma, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, interacted with the students, informing them about the safety measures being implemented by various departments, including the traffic police, motor vehicles department, executive police, and other stakeholders. Shri Shami Kumar Sharma, ARTO Kathua, and his team, along with Dr. (Prof) Ravinder Kour, Principal of GDC Basohli, played an active role in organizing the programme. Dy. SP Traffic Samba-Kathua, Sukhdev Singh, also attended the event.
During the session, statistics on the rising number of accidents and fatalities in Jammu & Kashmir and India were shared, highlighting the urgency of adopting road safety practices. The participants were encouraged to become ambassadors for road safety within their communities and raise awareness among family and friends. Key factors contributing to accidents, such as not wearing helmets, seat belts, overspeeding, and driving under the influence, were discussed.
While law enforcement agencies continue to take measures to curb traffic violations, the importance of collective responsibility in adhering to traffic rules was emphasized to prevent accidents and safeguard lives.
