DGP Lohia Memorial Debating Contest held

Jammu, Jan 17: Hemant Kumar Lohia, IPS Memorial Charitable Trust, in collaboration with Govt. MAM College Jammu organised the First DGP Hemant Kumar Lohia IPS Memorial Debating Contest at the auditorium of MAM College to celebrate the meritorious services rendered by the Late DGP Sh. Hemant Kumar Lohia to Jammu & Kashmir. Trust revealed that this Debating Contest will be held every year to celebrate the memories and work of Sh. H.K. Lohia.In the first inter-college debate, the topic remained, ‘In the opinion of this house, Advancement of Social Media has improved the quality of Human Life’ Around 18 students from nine PG and Degree Colleges of Jammu participated and spoke in favour & against the motion.
In a message, Anand Jain, ADG Police Jammu zone, appreciated the Trust’s efforts and extended the police department’s full support for its future activities. He remembered DGP Hemant Kumar Lohia as a great human being and a professional Police officer and reiterated that his role in combating militancy and Police welfare will always be remembered.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, DIG JKS Range, was Chief Guest, while Sh. Joginder Singh, JKPS SSP Jammu, was the guest of honour. Prominent among others present on the occasion include Prof. (Dr.) B.B. Anand, Principal of MAM College, Jammu, Ajay Sharma SP South Jammu, Rajiv Khajuria, Patron HKLM Trust, Virender Gupta, President/Managing Trustee HKLM Trust, and Trustees & Advisors including Ashiq Bhat, Daleep Dhar, Kapil Dhar,Rattan Bharti, Jatinder Agarwal and Abhishek Jain
Rajiv Khajuria, Patron HKLM Trust, highlighted DGP Hemant Kumar Lohia’s achievements and termed him a great visionary and reformer in the Police Department whose active contribution in combating militancy and ensuring public-friendly policing will be remembered forever. He also highlighted his connection with civil society, which resulted in the formation of the HKLM Trust to celebrate his life and work.
Prof. (Dr.) B.B. Anand, principal of the MAM College, also spoke on the occasion and called upon the students to learn from Mr. Hemant Kumar Lohia’s life. He assured the college of his full support in the Trust’s future endeavours. Ajay Sharma SP South also addressed and sensitised the students on cyber security and the safe use of social media.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, DIG JKS Range, in his address, remembered DGP H K Lohia for his innovative approach and listed the reforms he brought to traffic police as IG Traffic J&K. He stated that DGP Lohia Joined the state during peak militance and fought it from the forefront. He also motivated policemen under his command to work as a team and defeat the nefarious designs of the enemy from across the border. He lauded the role of Hemant Kumar Lohia Memorial Charitable Trust for starting an annual DGP Lohia Memorial Debating Contest and extended full support of the Police department in all the activities of the trust. He also sensitised the students and audience on the cyber threats and called upon the youth to create awareness among their parents and grandparents so that they do not fall prey to the cyber threats.
