Eat right initiative, Food safety workshop held

Kishtwar, Jan 17: A one-day workshop on Eat Right initiatives and FSS regulations was held at the New DC Office Complex, Kishtwar. The event aimed to promote awareness among food business operators (FBOs), NGOs, and departmental officers about food safety, licensing, registration, and food fortification.
The workshop was organized by Sh. Farooq Ahmed, Designated Officer, Food Safety Kishtwar, and graced by prominent officials, including Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), J&K, Sh. Hashmat Ali Yatoo, IAS, and Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety, FDA Division Jammu, Sh. Madan Magotra. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan, JKAS, attended as the Chief Guest.
The workshop covered critical topics such as food fortification in ICDS and Mid-Day Meals, hygienic practices, the use of Mobile Food Testing Vans, hygiene ratings, FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) programs, organic farming, and RUCO (Repurpose Used Cooking Oil).
Sh. Hashmat Ali Yatoo emphasized the importance of maintaining quality and hygiene in food practices and called for collective responsibility among stakeholders to safeguard public health. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan, highlighted the need for grassroots awareness of the Food Safety Act.
Detailed presentations and discussions were conducted by Sh. Madan Magotra, Sh. Farooq Ahmed Sheikh, and other officials. The event also featured insights from representatives of consumer organizations, the hotel and restaurant association, and allied departments.
The workshop concluded with a call for collaborative efforts to promote food safety, ensuring the welfare of society and public health.
