Preparedness in Action: JUIT hosts FAMEx program with NDRF and DDMA

SOLAN, Jan 18: The Civil Engineering Department (CED) of Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) organized a Familiarization Exercise (FAMEx) in collaboration with the 14th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Solan. The event aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness and response skills among the university community. The program commenced with an opening address by Prof. Ashish Kumar, Head of the Civil Engineering Department. He emphasized the importance of disaster response training and expressed gratitude to the District Collector (DC) Solan and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kandaghat for their support in organizing the event.
Key Highlights of the Event:
Chief Guest Address: Brigadier R.K. Sharma, Registrar of JUIT and Dean of Students, shared his experiences in disaster response during his tenure in the Indian Army and praised the collaboration between CED and DDMA Solan.
Demonstrations by NDRF Team: Led by Inspector Deepak, the NDRF team conducted engaging demonstrations on disaster response techniques, including:
Earthquake Safety: "Drop, Cover, and Hold" technique.
Fire Safety: PASS method for fire extinguisher use.
First Aid: Techniques for handling bleeding, skull injuries, and rubble extrication.
Stretcher Usage: Homemade and standard stretcher methods.
Lifting and Carrying: Two-hand, three-hand, and four-hand techniques.
CPR Training: Techniques for adults, children, and infants.
The event witnessed active participation from over 300 attendees, including students, faculty, and staff from departments like security, housekeeping, sports, and fire safety.
The program concluded with resounding appreciation from the audience for the practical insights and hands-on learning provided by the NDRF team. This initiative reaffirms JUIT's commitment to fostering a culture of safety and disaster preparedness within its community.
