JU Law School facilitates cultural exchange under border area youth exchange programme

Jammu, Jan 18: The Law School, University of Jammu hosted 25 students from five states - Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh - as part of the Border Area Youth Exchange Programme. This initiative, under MY Bharat, is organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
The program, led by Prof. Seema Rohmetra, Director, The Law School, and coordinated by Dr. Nitan Sharma, aimed to foster cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and connections between youth from border and non-border regions.
Participants engaged in discussions on the lives of border residents, exploring their resilience and dispelling myths and stereotypes. They also visited the University’s botanical garden, guided by Dr. Nitin Katoch and Dr. Sajan Thakur, offering a glimpse into the region’s natural beauty.
Distinguished guests, including Nitin Hangloo, District Youth Officer, NYKS Jammu; Dr. R.P. Prajapat and Dr. Srishilan from IIT Jammu; and Avinash Choudhary, Chairman of the Border Welfare Organization, J&K, emphasized the power of youth in fostering unity and understanding.
Students praised the initiative, gaining fresh perspectives on Jammu and Kashmir. Many remarked on the region’s rapid development and its emergence as a premier destination for education and tourism. Inspired, they pledged to share their insights and promote positive perceptions of the area. Students Gagandeep Singh Sasan, Ayush Sharma, Tanvi Bhagat, and Disha Salaria shared their reflections on the program, while Suhani Sharma moderated the proceedings with finesse. The Border Area Youth Exchange Programme underscores the government’s dedication to empowering youth through enhanced social mobility, educational opportunities, and experiential learning, paving the way for a more inclusive and interconnected future.
