| Develop vision for education: Peerzada to teachers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, APRIL 09 – Terming teachers as the pivot of educational system, the Minister for Education and Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said that quality of education being imparted in the educational institutions is the yardstick that reflects the progress and aspirations of the society. “Well educated and intellectually alive teachers having a progressive vision have taken the nation to new highs,” he said. The Minister was speaking at a function organized to mark the Annual Lecturers’ Day organized by All J&K +2 Lecturers Forum at Zorawer Singh Auditorium today. The Minister said that quality in education is the need of the day and every child requires the right kind of educational ambience for achieving skill upgradation and channelization of his potential. He asked teachers to act as facilitators and role models for the budding minds. He asserted that for achieving progress and prosperity of the country, it was imperative to give more thrust to development of education infrastructure adding that social and economic transformation can only be achieved by following the maxims of teachings..
Minister for Health Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, speaking on the occasion lauded the performance of +2 lecturers in registering excellent results in the secondary school examinations. He said that +2 stage is the most crucial phase for the students determining their future career streams and areas for pursuing higher studies. Mr. Sharma said that the lecturers have a crucial responsibility of bringing the level of education being imparted in the remote and far-flung areas at par with the urban institutions. Secretary Education Mr. G.A. Peer, on the occasion said that teachers like Dr. Radha Krishanan and Dr. Zakir Hussain have served as exemplary models who had left indelible imprints on the educational scenario of the country, adding that reviving this zeal and dedication among the teachers can be the only panacea for removing ills from the society. He reiterated that the nation that does not realize the importance of teachers has no hope for future. Earlier, the function was inaugurated by the Minister by lighting the traditional lamp. On the occasion, mementos were also given to meritorious lecturers. Senior lecturer Mr. Ajit Singh of Higher Secondary School, Paloura was awarded for his commendable services in the field of education while Surinder Memorial Award was given to retired lecturer Thakur Jog Raj. Former Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, MLAs, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Mr. M. Y. Tarigami, Director School Education Jammu, also spoke on the occasion. Later, responding to the demands put forth by Lecturer Forum on the occasion, the Minister assured that their genuine demands would be looked into.
