SMVDU hosts one day academic exchange with faculty members of IIT Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 19: In a significant step towards fostering student growth, academic collaboration and intellectual exchange, the School of Biotechnology (SoBT), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), hosted an interactive session with faculty, postgraduate (PG) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) Biotechnology students with the faculty from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu. The event, held on brought together thought leaders, researchers, and students from both institutions to discuss advancements, challenges, and opportunities in biotechnology and biochemical engineering.
The primary aim of the event was to establish a platform for interdisciplinary learning and collaboration between SMVDU and IIT Jammu. It sought to bridge gaps between academic institutions, foster research partnerships, and inspire young minds to pursue innovative solutions to pressing challenges in the biotechnology/bioscience's domain. Dr. Mithu, Head and a distinguished faculty member Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering IIT-Jammu, led the session with an engaging discussion on the soon to be offered M.tech program in Biomedical devices. Dr. Mithu emphasized the department's commitment to innovation, cutting-edge research, and industry-oriented learning, making it a preferred choice for advanced studies.
One of the key highlights of the interaction was the discussion on potential collaborations between SoBT, SMVDU, and the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Jammu. Prof. Ratna Chandra, Head of the School of Biotechnology at SMVDU, expressed enthusiasm about the interaction, stating, "This exchange is not only about sharing knowledge but also about creating a roadmap for joint research projects, academic collaborations, and nurturing the next generation of biotechnologists." Faculty from IIT Jammu highlighted their ongoing research in bioengineering, synthetic biology, and drug delivery systems. Students from PG Biotechnology and BTech Biotechnology at SMVDU actively participated in discussions, showcasing their curiosity and enthusiasm. Faculty from both institutions expressed their interest in organizing joint workshops, faculty development programs, and student exchange initiatives. Collaborative research projects, particularly in areas like bioinformatics, bioprocess engineering, and sustainable technologies, were identified as promising avenues for partnership.
The interaction underscored the importance of cross-institutional collaborations in enhancing academic and research outcomes. It not only inspired students but also laid the groundwork for a long-term partnership between SMVDU and IIT Jammu. Dr. Shafaq Rasool, Associate Professor, at School of Biotechnology and Associate Dean Academic Affairs, concluded the session with a wrap-up of the event highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary research in bridging the gap leading to impactful innovations.
The event was moderated by Ms. Tanvi Sharma, Ph.D. Scholar, School of Biotechnology. The interaction marked a significant step towards creating a collaborative ecosystem between SMVDU and IIT Jammu. By opening new avenues for academic and research opportunities, the event has set the stage for a long-term partnership that promises to benefit students and faculty alike. With initiatives such as exchange programs, and dual degrees with scholarships, the collaboration aims to redefine academic excellence and equip students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the ever-evolving field of biotechnology.The event was organized under the active patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, Honourable Vice Chancellor SMVDU. He expressed his vision of creating a vibrant academic ecosystem that encourages innovation and interdisciplinary learning, and he lauded the efforts of both faculties for initiating this meaningful dialogue.
